1.The classical or golden age of Greece lasted from about 500 bce to 300 bce. The greeks in  believed that everyone was bisexual Sexually responsive to either gender

2. The ancient hebrews:  The ancient Hebrews viewed sex, at least in marriage, as

a satisfying experience intended to fulfill the divine command to “be fruitful and multiply.”

The emphasis on the procreative function of sex led to some interesting social

customs. For example, childlessness and the development of a repulsive abnormality,

such as a boil, were grounds for divorce. Male–male and female–female sexual behavior

were strongly condemned because they threatened the perpetuation of the family.

Select one contemporary cultural perspective on human sexuality listed in the text (e.g., sexual revolution, gay activism, sex research).

1.

Gay activism has focused on ending discrimination against gay males and lesbians on all fronts. Notable among these are obtaining partner job benefits (health plan, retirement, and so on), serving openly in the military, and having governments permit gays to get married. Two of the largest issues gay males and lesbians faced were the

repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and the legalization of same-sex marriage. DOMA, signed into law by president Bill Clinton in 1996, defines marriage as occurring only between a man and a woman, therefore denying equal protection and due process to gay males and lesbians. DOMA was found unconstitutional by the

Supreme Court in 2013. The Supreme Court then legalized same-sex marriage nationwide in 2015. In the previous edition of this book, replacement of the Don’t Ask–Don’t Tell order in the military—instituted by President Bill Clinton in 1993 and considered

a “cop-out” by most gays—with the right to serve openly was a key concern. However, in 2011, President Barack Obama gave gay males and lesbians the right to openly serve their country. “Gay activism”—or same-sex activism, or LGBT activism—has successfully moved its agenda in the twenty-first century. The times they are a-changing, and more swiftly than most people had expected.
