In Chapter 7: The Environment – Part II, Hite and Seitz (2016) discuss the existing tension between development and the environment. Development brings economic growth as well as social and environmental changes. To a developing country, economic growth may be of a higher priority than the consequences to the long-term health of its citizens or its environment. On the other hand, poverty can also harm the environment such as how searching for land to farm contributes to deforestation.

1. Do wealthy nations using the labor of developing nations have responsibilities to the people and environment of that country?

2. Why or why not? Be sure to use examples of existing companies to support your response.

In the source of Global warming which was a concern of the first world conference that was held in Sweden in 1972. The three different types of pollution and heat than can be effectively process by our environment and that can be identify as the most critical to address are

(1).. Air pollution is one of the most dangerous that can be address It kills more than 2 million of people each year. Air pollution such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen and chemical vapors are one of the most critical to address.

(2) Water pollution can be caused by contamination, bodies of organisms are in the environment such as lakes rivers and oceans, which causes physical disturbance of land due to construction of houses, and industries and by adequate sewage collection and treatment. Water is essential to life. Water pollution is one of the most serious ecological threats, we face when substances get in these lakes, rivers and oceans and deposit. It degrades the quality of the water and soil pollution which enters the atmosphere in many different ways.

(3) Also green house gases such as fossil fuel, which exhaust nitrogen and carbon dioxide and other green house emission. Carbon Dioxide is known to cause damage to the earth atmosphere and other greenhouse gases emitted by natural and artificial sources which include methane, nitrous oxide and other gases.

The three pollutants that I believe are the most critical to address are carbon monoxide, lead, and nitrogen dioxide. Each of these pollutants emit dangerous levels of gases into the earth that cause health issues and damage to the environment.

Carbon monoxide – Carbone monoxide is probably one of the most popular gases known to cause great damage to the earth’s atmosphere. Because transportation is a necessity in today’s society, much of the pollution of carbon monoxide is released via cars, trucks, planes, trains, and other machinery that burn fossil fuels. As the population increases, so does the use of transportation. It is imperative to find a solution or alternative to the fuels used to power vehicles. Transportation is an invention that will not go away, in fact, with time, the need increases so we need to make pertinent changes to the manufacturing of these means of transportation so that the level of gases emitted are significantly decreased until eliminated altogether. The level of importance that transportation is to the public is the reason why this issue is critical to address. CO2 is an odorless gas, virtually impossible to know when the levels are too high to kill you. There was a family of 6 that all died in a home due to high levels of CO2. A father and 5 children died in their sleep. Also, there was a hotel that had high levels of CO2, I believe that their heating and cooling system was broken and two or more guests lost their lives as they slept in their hotel. Transportation is needed for business and personal use, and for most, it is the only means of making a living. Making vehicles cleaner, more safe to the environment is critical to lowering CO2 emissions.

Lead – The EPA reports that the levels of lead decreased 98% between 1980 and 2014. Lead was found to be used in paint, and found in most homes built prior to 1978.The health of children is a critical aspect of lead in the air. It is even found in the water supply, most likely because of contamination through landfills carrying items with concentrations of lead in them, putting people at all ages at risk of lead poisoning. The processing of metals, ore, and piston-engine in aircraft are the main sources of lead in the air. Utilities and lead-acid battery manufacturers are also culprits of lead exposures. Also, transportation was a big contributor of lead in the air prior to regulatory measures set in place to eliminate lead in cars.

Nitrogen Oxide – Another gas emitted through transportation, NO2 is also emitted through off road vehicles and power plants. NO2 irritates the respiratory system in humans causing issues such as asthma and brochitis and it forms acid rain in the environment. Acid rains harm sensitive ecosystems like lakes and forests.

Each one of the pollutants named (CO2, Lead, & NO2) are all found in transportation. The transportation industry is a cause for much of the emissions and should be addressed. Because the need for transportation increases over time, the levels of fuels used that emit gases into the earth’s atmosphere is critical to solve.
